2-Nov-2015: Version 3.5.0 of WordPress File Upload Plugin Released

New version, 3.5.0 of WordPress File Upload plugin has just been released.

This is an important release as it introduces many new features. The most important of the them is the ability to upload files to a Dropbox account. You can define the Dropbox account from the plugin’s Settings in Dashboard and then you can use the dropbox attribute to activate Dropbox uploads manually through the shortcode, or do it more easily using the Shortcode Composer by going to Interoperability tab under the new “Connection With Cloud Services” category, as shown below.

More details about how to use the Dropbox feature will be issued in a new article.

Another important feature is pagination of several tables of the plugin, which assists reading them more easily, especially when they contain many items. These tables are the users’ permissions in plugin’s Settings in Dashboard, the back-end Uploaded Files Browser, the front-end File List Viewer and the Log Viewer, as shown below:

Other significant changes are the following:

  • Added a new feature to export the uploaded files’ data to a comma-separated (csv) file. This option is inside Maintenance Actions of the plugin’s area in Dashboard.
  • A new filter is introduced, wfu_before_frontpage_scripts, which runs before any front-end scripts and styles are declared. This filter can assist in resolving incompatibilities with other plugins relating to jQuery modules, such as the NextGen Gallery plugin.
  • The text domain of the plugin has changed to wp-file-upload, so that it can be internationalized through the Translation feature of wordpress.org.

Of course, the Shortcode Composer has been updated to support these additions and assist configure the plugin very easily.

Please note that despite the large amount of changes, backward compatibility is maintained. This means that the new version of the plugin will read the existing shortcodes just fine.

You can check details in the Release Notes of the plugin’s support page.
