Friday, 25-May-2018. New version 4.5.0 of WordPress File Upload plugin has just been released.
This update makes the plugin compliant with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union, which becomes effective as of today. GDPR brings many changes to personal data protection and gives users more power and control of their data. Although it is a European regulation, it is expected to affect all Internet community. You can read more about GDPR in its official page.
The plugin provides the following functions related to GDPR:
- It adds a question in the upload form prompting users to give their consent before uploading files and personal data on the website. Several options have been added in the uploader shortcode in a separate tab, Personal Data, for configuring the appearance and behaviour of the consent question.
- It allows users to review and change their consent status through their profile.
- It allows administrators to export and delete data stored by the plugin in the database separately for each user, in case such actions are requested by them.
- If a user has not given consent then uploaded data will not be stored in the database. They will only be included in the notification email, if such an option is activated in the shortcode.
Future versions of the plugin will include more options regarding personal data handling.
You can check more details in the Release Notes of the plugin’s support page.
